Scacciadiavoli
Cantina Scacciadiavoli, a historic winery nestled in Montefalco, Umbria, was founded in 1884. The name, translating to "exorcise devils," originates from a 14th-century legend involving a possessed young man cured by the local wine. Today, Scacciadiavoli is deeply intertwined with the Sagrantino grape and the Pambuffetti family, a bond that began with Amilcare's vision and continues through four generations. The winery offers immersive tours and tastings, inviting guests to experience the heart of Umbria where tradition meets innovation.
The winery's heart is its impressive 19th-century complex, featuring four levels, including an underground section, which functions as both a winery and a living museum of winemaking. This architectural marvel houses elements of significant historical and infrastructural value, offering a glimpse into the evolution of viticulture. The barrel room, with its unique atmosphere, is a testament to the winery's dedication to preserving its heritage while embracing modern winemaking techniques.
Scacciadiavoli's dedication to quality extends beyond its historic walls to its commitment to the Montefalco terroir. This region, renowned as "land for wine," has shaped the landscape since Roman times. The winery crafts its celebrated Montefalco Sagrantino and other exceptional wines from this renowned area. In addition to their Italian wines, Scacciadiavoli also produces Marie Clugny Champagne, reflecting the family's drive to innovate and explore new horizons.
